Interview with light-heavyweight UCMMA champion Linton Vassell

Jay Cee: "Hi Linton, great to have you on themmareview.co.uk. Firstly I have to start by talking about your most recent fight against Aurelijus Kerpe at UCMMA 26. You won the fight by submission that night and became the new light-heavyweight champion, tell me how that felt? and give me your thoughts on the fight?"

Linton: "Hi Jay, my last was against Aurelijus who stepped in with two weeks notice after Meiseck had to pull out. When I won the title I didn't really know what to do, it didn't sink in till a few days after. The fight went to plan, I knew as soon as I had him down it was only a matter of time before the fight was going to be stopped. He was a game fighter for stepping in after two weeks."

Jay Cee: "It will be great to see you back in the cage fighting again. You will be taking on Anthony Taylor at Made4thecage 6, tell me how you see the fight playing out on the night? and what do you think of Taylor as an opponent?"

Linton: "Really looking forward to this fight with Taylor, I see the fight ending on the ground. All of my wins have come by TKO or Submission and it won't be any different on the night. I don't really know anything about Taylor, only that he is from Newcastle and is 6-0."

Jay Cee: "What is your favourite part of training? What particular area of your game will you now look to improve or work on in preparation for future fights?"

Linton: "My favourite part of training is the MMA part and circurt training, I love my hill sprints...lol. I am always working on every part of my game and never leave anything out."

Jay Cee: "What gym/gym's do you currently train at?"

Linton: "I train all over but my main gym is Immortal MMA. I also train at Blood, Sweat and Tears and many more to get the best training from every gym"

Jay Cee: "What are your goals for the future? What can we expect to see from Linton Vassell within the next 5 years? Do you have your eyes on any of the bigger shows ie. UFC, Bellator etc?"

Linton: "My goals are to keep the W's coming, collect more gold around my waist and be the best at what I love to do. Within the next 5 years I want to be on all those shows like UFC and Bellator etc. I think my time is now, a few more big wins and I'll have my name on those big lights all over the world"

Jay Cee: "Last question now Linton...Who is your favourite MMA fighter past or present? And why?"

Linton: "I've got a few but Randy Couture for his Wrestling and Jon Jones for everything really...lol.

Jay Cee: "Ok, well that's it Linton. Thanks for taking some out to do this interview with me and good luck in your next fight."

Linton: " Thanks Jay, I would just like to thank my sponsors 16BARS, Heshi Fightwear, MMA Sports Nutrition, Gi Shirts and my PR Fortuna. Also thanks to my trainers and training partners"

Michael Bisping Vs Tim Boetsch will take place at UFC 148

This week it was confirmed by the UFC that middleweight fighters Michael Bisping and Tim Boetsch will take each other on at UFC 148. This event is set to take place on July 7th 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. The headline fight for that evening will be Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber who will meet for the third time and fight for the bantamweight title.

Michael Bisping will enter this fight having just come off a loss to Chael Sonnen in a fight to become the number one contender for Anderson Silva's UFC gold. Bisping lost this fight by decision snapping a five fight winning streak. Before losing the fight to Sonnen he had strung together four victories in a row against the likes of Dan Miller, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Jorge Rivera and Jason Miller. If Bisping can bounce back with a big win over Boetsch it will again leave him at the top end of the pile.

Tim Boetsch comes into this fight with a big victory under his belt. By defeating Yushin Okami at UFC 144 in Saitama, Japan he has catapulted himself to the top of the middleweight division. In the fight Tim made a massive comeback by knocking out Okami in the third round after losing the first two rounds of the fight quite heavily. This all or nothing attitude turned the heads of not only the fans but the UFC themselves. Many feel that since making the drop to middleweight Tim Boetsch has looked much stronger, since being in this weight class he has strung together three straight wins and does not plan to stop anytime soon.

Mark Hunt Vs Stefan Struve in a Heavyweight Battle at UFC 146

News has recently emerged that UFC heavyweight fighters Mark Hunt and Stefan Struve will face each other at UFC 146 which is set to take place on May 26th 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. This event will feature 5 heavyweight bouts on the main card making UFC history. In the main event of the night we will see Alistair Overeem take on the heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos for the title. I have a feeling we are set to see some monstrous battles.

Mark Hunt has an MMA record of 8-7 and enters this fight coming off a big victory over Cheick Kongo at UFC 144 in Japan. Hunt won that fight with a first round TKO securing himself a 3 fight winning streak withing the organisation. Another big win against Stefan Struve would definitely move Mark into the top half of the division making him a major player on the path towards heavyweight gold.

Stefan Struve enters this fight with an MMA record of 23-5 having most recently won his last two fights in a row. One of those fights was against Pat Barry at a UFC Live event held in October 2011, Stefan won that fight via submission and most recently defeated Dave Herman via TKO at the UFC on Fuel TV 1 event which was held in February of this year. Struve will now look to press forward and secure an important victory against Mark Hunt at UFC 146.

News has emerged that former Strikeforce fighter Antonio Silva will be facing Roy "Big Country" Nelson at UFC 146 in a heavyweight battle that will take place on May 26th 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. This event will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between current champion Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem.

Roy Nelson enters this fight with an MMA record of 16-7, his most recent fight was against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 143 where he lost the fight via unanimous decision. Roy has lost three of his last four fights in the UFC, so he really has to win this fight to protect his job within the organisation. Big Country never fails to give the fans entertaining and exciting fights and this is something that makes him very popular with MMA fans all over the world. He is sure to give 100% on the night to try and secure the victory.

Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva will enter the fight with an MMA record of 16-3. Silva is one of the Strikeforce fighters that has made the move over to the UFC, his most recent fight was against Daniel Cormier in the semi-finals of the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament. Antonio lost this fight via KO in the first round, this loss broke a three fight winning streak. Silva had built up a string of wins against the likes of Andrei Arlovski, Mike Kyle and Fedor Emelianenko before losing to Cormier. Antonio will now look to make his presence known within the UFC with a big win over Roy Nelson. Both of these men have something to prove which is what makes this fight so interesting.

The MMA Review "Babe Of The Month" for March 2012: Sofia Cortez

Here at The MMA Review we have introduced a "Babe Of The Month" feature to the Website. I am happy to tell you that our first ever babe beginning with the month of March will be model Sofia Cortez!

Check out our Interview:

Jay Cee: "Hi Sofia, it is great to have you on themmareview.co.uk as our first EVER "babe of the month"! Tell me how it feels to be our March MMA girl? and also a little birdie tells me that it is your birthday in March, how will you be celebrating?"

Sofia: "Hiya! Thanks for having me as your "babe of the month". I'm chuffed you asked me, especially as I love MMA so much and it's also my birthday month! So thanks for that!...I'm celebrating over the week cos I'm greedy! Going shopping, for a meal with all my friends and I'm also going on two nights out just to make sure I have celebrated it enough! Haha! Nothing over the top this year as you can see!"

Jay Cee: "Sounds good! I first got in touch with you after seeing some pictures of you as a ring girl at a UK MMA event, tell me which promotions you have worked for in the past? and what you like most about being a ring girl?"

Sofia: "I worked for that event through LSA MANAGEMENT LTD (so if anyone wants to book me , book me through Leo!). I have done ring girl stuff in the past but only for boxing, I love doing ring girl jobs as there's such a good atmosphere and great eye candy..haha! I'm a full time model so I'm usually in studios or travelling all over the UK and abroad with my other agencies. I also do webcamming and a interactive chat through www.saucytime.com so get to know! I used to do babechannels but now I don't have time with my modelling and dancing also."

Jay Cee: "Are you an actual MMA fan? If so, who is your favourite MMA fighter? and why?"

Sofia: "I don't know too much about MMA but I'm willing to learn more, I don't have a favourite fighter as of yet so I'm on the lookout for one to fill this void in my life haha! Anyone who's not in it for all the glory, someone who is actually passionate about what they do and willing to put in the work!"

Jay Cee: "So tell me a bit about what else you do outside of being a ring girl? and what can we expect from Sofia Cortez in 2012?"

Sofia: "As mentioned, I'm a full time Model published internationally, ex Babechannel girl, Webcammer and Saucytime.com girl. I am looking to do more ring girl work as it's so exciting and I get to meet some great people! Expect to see a lot more photoshops popping up as I'm flying to St. Tropez and the Algarve for some raunchy shoots! Expect to see me at a lot more events and in more Magazines. Possibly working in Ibiza and Croatia too on some different projects!"

Jay Cee: "Sounds like you have an exciting year ahead! What advice would you give to any up and coming ring girls/models trying to get into the industry?

Sofia: "There will always be competition out there so don't take that as a down side, work it to your advantage and make it push you harder towards getting the jobs. Talk to people and make them remember you for your personality as well as looks, people like a nice personality! And don't be bitchy about other people's success, be happy for them! Good things come to those who wait and I believe in Karma!"

Jay Cee: "Some great words of advice there Sofia. Now lastly, please tell me where themmareview.co.uk fans and readers can keep up-to-date with what you are doing?"

Sofia: "My fan page on Facebook got deleted as some idiot reported me! I only have a personal one on there now so follow me on Twitter @SofiaXcortez and you will be kept update with my latest photos etc."

Jay Cee: "Great, well that about wraps it up Sofia. Thanks again for taking some time out to be our March "Babe Of The Month". Good luck for the future and I am sure we will see you back on here at some point!"

Sofia: "Thank you for having me. Xxx"

Thiago Silva replaces an injured Nogueira and will fight Alexander Gustafsson in Main Event at UFC on Fuel TV 2

News has emerged that returning UFC fighter Thiago Silva will fight Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on Fuel TV 2 as a replacement for an injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. This new main event will be part of a show that is set to take place on April 14th 2012 in Stockholm, Sweden at the Ericsson Globe Arena. Nogueira had to withdraw from the fight due to a knee injury.

Thiago Silva will enter this fight with an MMA record of 14-2, his last fight in the UFC was against Brandon Vera at UFC 125. Silva did emerge victorious in this fight but the decision was later overturned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to Thiago submitting a urine sample that was not actually human urine in two separate drug tests. Thiago later revealed that he had actually taken a prescription steroid in relation to a back injury he had sustained in the lead up to the Brandon Vera fight and knowingly broke the rules. Thiago was given a 1 year suspension due to this incident which he has now served. It will be interesting to see how he performs in his return to the octagon and I know many fans will be tuned in to watch fight.

Alexander Gustafsson will enter this bout with an impressive MMA record of 13-1 with his only ever career loss suffered at the hands of Phil Davis at UFC 112. Alexander was last seen in action at UFC 141 against Vladimir Matyushenko in a fight which he won via TKO in the first round. This gives Gustafsson a four fight win streak which he will look to take to five against Silva. A victory will put Alexander very high up the ladder, so he is sure to be very focused on the night especially fighting in front of his home crowd. I can't wait to see these guys go at it!

Thanks for reading.

Ronda Rousey becomes the new Strikeforce Bantamweight champion by defeating Miesha Tate with an armbar!

Strikeforce now has a new women's bantamweight champion. Ronda Rousey defeated Miesha Tate on Saturday with her signature armbar submission securing the victory in a highly anticipated battle. The fight took place in Columbus, Ohio and during the build up we saw these two women talk a lot of trash about each other. There was definitely no love lost between these two female warriors and all the talking was left to one side when they actually got the chance to fight each other on the night.

Tate began the fight all guns blazing but was eventually taken to the ground where Rousey made her first attempt at an armbar submission. Amazingly Miesha got out of the submission and wound up taking Ronda's back, Rousey then managed to get out of that spot and get the fight back up to the feet. Shortly after this Rousey floors Tate with a hip toss and gains herself the mount position, Miesha attempted to spin out of that position which in turn gave up her back. Ronda seized this opportunity to lock in another armbar which this time proved too much, giving viewers and fans a graphic view of Miesha Tate's arm being bent completely out of place leaving her with no option but to tap.

The new champion Ronda Rousey has defeated all five of her opponents via Armbar since becoming a pro MMA fighter which I think is pretty amazing. I am sure we will see Miesha Tate back on the title hunt as soon as the arm injury has healed, but in the meantime it looks likely that we will see Rousey defend her new title against Sarah Kaufman who defeated Alexis Davis earlier that night in a bloody war.

Check out this post-fight recap...
