Matt Brown vs. Luis Ramos added to UFC on FX 4 fight card

A new fight has been added to the UFC on FX 4 card, Matt “The Immortal” Brown (14-11) will take on Luis Ramos (19-7) welterweight bout in June.

The fight was announced by Matt Brown today on hisFacebook and Twitter pages, originally various reports suggested that Ramos would be facing Matt Riddle at the event but he was unable to take the fight due to reasons unknown at this stage.

UFC on FX 4 will take place on June 22nd at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. The main card for the event will air on FX with Fuel TV expected to carry the prelims. The headlining bout on the night will be Clay Guida vs. Gray Maynard in a battle of highly ranked lightwweight contenders.

Matt Brown is currently riding a two fight winning streak having defeated Chris Cope at UFC 143 and most recently Stephen Thompson at UFC 145. Brown defeated Thompson via unanimous decision and put a damper on the hype surrounding the hot “Wonderboy” prospect. In 2010 Brown was on a bad slide losing three fights in a row against Ricardo Almeida, Chris Lytle, and Brian Foster. He was able to end the skid with a unanimous decision win over John Howard which probably saved his spot on the UFC roster.

This will be the second fight for Luis Ramos in the UFC after losing his debut bout against Erick Silva at UFC 134 in August 2011. Ramos was knocked out in the first round of the fight which is never a nice way to start out with a promotion. Prior to joining the UFC Luis had built up a three fight winning streak and will now look to bounce back to that winning form against Brown.

The UFC returns to the U.K. on Sept. 29th at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham

This past weekend it was announced that the UFC will be returning to the U.K. on September 29th. No official broadcasting plans have been made yet but various rumors suggest that it may be a UFC on Fuel TV event.

The event will take place at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England. If the show is on Fuel TV it will air live internationally. This is a welcome benefit linked to the Fox deal which was made last fall. In the past shows held within the U.K. have aired via tape delay in the U.S., but this would no longer be the case allowing fans to tune into the action as it happens similar to the UFC event that took place in Sweden in April.

Currentlt no matches have been officially announced for the event but some names have been thrown into the mix as likely participants. At the UFC 146 press conference this past weekend UFC president Dana White was asked if the rumors of a show in Nottingham were true and if UFC 146 winners Paul Sass and Dan Hardy who are both British would be on the card. White said:

“Yea, that is happening and Dan will probably be on that card”

Dan Hardy is from Nottingham so it makes sense for him to fight in his hometown. The British fighter expressed a clear interest in fighting on the card in a UFC 146 post fight interview with ProMMANow.com reporter Joe Gugelman on Saturday night.

Another fighter from England that has shown interest in fighting at the event is TUF cast member Andy Ogle who asked Dana White if he could fight at the event in an episode of “The Ultimate Fighter: Live”. Ogle was informed that he couldn’t fight on the TUF Live Finale due to getting knocked the week before which resulted him a 90 day suspension from the NSAC. Ogle then approached Dana White on the sow a

UFC shows are always popular in the U.K. normally taking place once every year. In October 2010 at the O2 Arena in London UFC 120 at that time broke the attendance record in Europe with 17,133 spectators and a $2.56 million live gate. Last year’s UFC 138 show in Birmingham’s LG Arena also set an arena record when it drew a reported 10,823 attendees for a live gate of $1.5 million.

Does former UFC Heavyweight Champ Brock Lesnar want to come back to the UFC?

A familiar face was in attendance on Saturday night at UFC 146 when former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar attended the event and various comments from UFC President Dana White at the post fight press conference have sparked rumors of a potential return to the octagon.

Dana White explained in a post-fight media scrum that Brock sent him a text asking if he could come to the fight and that he wanted to speak to him face-to-face. Then when asked if he thinks Lesnar would want to return to the UFC Dana said:

“You never know with him, he might want to come back. He might just want to hang out.”

When Dana White was asked in the actual press conference if Brock Lesnar would make a return he said:

“Possibly” then when asked if he had spoke to him yet White replied “no” but that he was going to meet with him afterwards.

So it is clear that Brock has some interest in the UFC, but we are yet to find out exactly what that is. Lesnar recently returned to the WWE where he first became a star, he went back to wrestling after retiring from MMA following his loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141. It could be that Lesnar has a real interest in returning to MMA after his move back to the WWE hasn’t gone as planned with him not being a huge PPV draw over there. Lesnar quickly became one of if not the biggest PPV draw in MMA history during his UFC run over a four year period. Lesnar is one that doesn’t come out in the public eye for nothing as he tends to stay in seclusion on his farm back home. So either he’s interested in coming back to MMA, or this appearance is somehow related to his WWE role. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of the his appearance at UFC 146.

Fedor Emelianenko could retire after Pedro Rizzo fight in Russia

It has emerged that former heavyweight Pride champion and MMA veteran Fedor Emelianenko will hang up his gloves after his next scheduled fight against Brazilian Pedro Rizzo. The fight between Fedor and Rizzo is set to take place on June 21st in St Petersburg, Russia.

The news of Emelianenko's retirement came from a recent interview the fighter had with Russian news site Rianovosti. Fedor said:

“I think it's time to call it a day” and then went on to say “This fight may be my last one.”
Emelianenko also said some words about his next opponent Pedro Rizzo:
“I have been learning from Pedro's fights and have a lot of respect for him,” the Russian said. “He is a fighter of a great maturity, beating many of the strongest.”

Fedor began his MMA career back in 2000, since then he has gone on to fight for various promotions all over the world. He has built up a record of 33-4-1 taking on and defeating top heavyweights such as Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, Kevin Randleman, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović, Mark Coleman and Tim Sylvia to name but a few.

The Russian is currently on a two fight winning streak since leaving Strikeforce, he defeated Jeff Monson and most recently Satoshi Ishii via TKO in Japan. Prior to the Monson victory “The Last Emperor” had lost three straight fights in Strikeforce against Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson. Many fans will be sad to see Fedor go but every fighter knows when it is their time to call it a day.

Rafael Natal vs. Andrew Craig & Nick Penner vs. Tom DeBlass added to UFC on FUEL TV 4

Two new bouts have been added to the UFC on Fuel TV 4 card. Rafael Natal (14-3-1) will take on Andrew Craig (7-0) in a middleweight matchup and Nick Penner (11-2) will face Tom DeBlass (7-1) in a light-heavyweight bout.

Rafael Natal announced the fight with Andrew Craig on his Twitter page and Penner Vs. DeBlass has been reported by multiple sources.

UFC on Fuel TV 4 will take place on July 11th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The main card will air on Fuel TV with the prelims expected to air on Facebook. The event will be headlined by a middleweight bout between Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman.

Rafael Natal is currently on a two fight winning streak with victories over Paul Bradley and most recently Michael Kuiper via unanimous decision at UFC 143 earlier this year. Natal joined the UFC in 2010 and currently has a record of (2-1-1) under the Zuffa banner. He lost his promotional debut to Rich Attonito and then followed up with a draw against Jesse Bongfeldt at UFC 124.

26-year-old Andrew Craig is undefeated in his MMA career so far as he was last in action when making his UFC debut in Australia at UFC on FX 2 against Kyle Noke. The UFC newcomer Craig defeated Noke via unanimous decision which was a great result as he fought on short notice replacing an injured Jared Hamman for that fight. The former LFC middleweight champion will now look to further his winning form and climb one step higher up the middleweight ladder.

Canadian fighter Nick Penner enters this fight coming off a loss to Anthony Perosh at UFC on FX 2 losing the fight via TKO in the first round. Penner will now get a chance to bounce back from his disappointing debut and show the UFC what he is really capable of. Prior to joining the UFC, Nick had stacked up an impressive record of (11-1) competing on the regional circuit in Canada.

Ricardo Almeida trained fighter Tom DeBlass has also only competed for the UFC once before and in similar fashion to Penner will be looking to bounce back from a debut loss. DeBlass took on Cyrille Diabaté in his first promotional outing and lost the fight via majority decision. DeBlass enjoyed a seven fight winning streak prior to joining the UFC with all his matches won within the Ring Of Combat promotion based in Atlantic City, NJ.

Aaron Simpson will face Jon Fitch at UFC on FUEL TV 4

A new matchup has been added to the UFC on Fuel TV 4 card with Aaron Simpson (11-3) taking on Jon Fitch (23-4-1) in a welterweight bout. This will be Simpson’s debut at welterweight having previously fought at middleweight.

The announcement for this fight was made by Aaron Simpson as he released the news at a Q&A session before today’s UFC on Fuel TV 3 weigh ins and has also mentioned it on his Twitter page.

UFC on Fuel TV 4 will take place on July 11th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Aaron Simpson will be looking to bounce back from his loss against Ronny Markes earlier this year at the UFC on Fuel TV 1 event. Aaron came out on the losing end of a split decision to Markes and now makes the move to the welterweight division. Prior to that loss Simpson had built up a three fight winning streak defeating Mario Miranda, Brad Tavares and Eric Schafer all in 2011, the NCAA All-American wrestler has a respectable 6-3 record in the UFC and at the 37 years of age is still a force to be reckoned with.

At UFC on Fuel TV 4 Jon Fitch who is considered to be one of the best fighters in the welterweight division will make his first octagon appearance since his surprising knockout loss to up and comer Johny Hendricks in December. Having taken on and defeated some of the best talent that the weight class has to offer, the UFC veteran will now look to bounce back into winning form. Fitch managed to build up a five fight winning streak defeating notable fighters such as Paulo Thiago, Mike Pierce, and Thiago Alves after his title shot loss to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 87.

MTV UK set to introduce MMA content on MTV.co.uk and new show "Caged"

It was announced on Friday that MTV UK will be introducing various MMA content to it's website MTV.co.uk. The reason behind this new content is to mark the arrival of a new TV show named "Caged". This new show is set to premiere on MTV UK on Wednesday 16th May at 9pm, it is a docu-series that will give viewers and insight into the world of amateur MMA fighters trying to make it in the fight industry.

One of the films available to view on MTV.co.uk will be "BAMMA's top five finishes" presented by matchmaker Jude Samuel, the video will showcase some exciting fights and allow viewers to see some of the biggest and most exciting names in the sport.

For those of you who are not aware BAMMA is Europe's leading Mixed Martial Arts promotion, launched in 2009 they are known for putting on a great show and exciting fight cards. Here is what BAMMA director David Green had to say about MTV covering Mixed Martial Arts:

"The mainstream British media has been slow to pick up on MMA as an evolving sport, particularly domestic MMA. BAMMA is proud to be involved with the platform that MTV UK is providing for a positive representation of the sport. MTV UK has always represented the cutting edge; and since MMA with its visceral energy really does put rock n roll into Combat Sports, MTV UK makes the perfect home for creative angles on the sport”

As well as the BAMMA short MTV.co.uk will also host a set of short MMA films aimed at educating newcomers to the sport and giving them a real look at UK MMA. These films will include content on UFC fighter John "The Hitman" Hathaway, Michael "Venom" Page and Przemyslaw Misiek Mysiala. Here is what the filmmaker behind these short films Demetrio Marquez had to say:

“As an MMA fan, I’m delighted to be a part of MTV UK’s coverage of the sport. My contribution is to project MMA in the best light possible, creating content that is engaging and informative to new fans, whilst attempting to give fans like myself what we would like to see about our favorite Mixed Martial Artists. I’ve chosen three characters who I believe offer distinct insights and can explain three things to those new to the sport; The excitement, the demands and the misconceptions of Mixed Martial Arts.”

Papy Abedi steps in to face Rick Story at UFC on FX 4

UFC officials announced on Tuesday that Swedish fighter Papy Abedi (8-2) will step in to take on Rick Story (13-5) at the UFC on FX 4 event on June 22nd. Story was originally scheduled to fight Rich Attonito who is now unable to compete due to an undisclosed injury.

This new welterweight bout will feature on the events preliminary card which will air on Fuel TV with the main card airing on FX.

UFC on FX 4 will take place in Atlantic City, N.J., and will be headlined by a lightweight matchup between Clay Guida and Gray Maynard.

Rick Story is coming off back to back losses against Charlie Brenneman and Martin Kampmann after pulling off a big upset win over Thiago Alves. It should be noted that the loss to Brenneman was a fight that Story agreed to take on just a few hours notice as his original opponent (Nate Marquardt) was pulled from the event. Prior to those losses Story was on a six fight winning with his only UFC loss coming in his debut against John Hathaway. Story needs a win here to put himself back into the mix in a crowded welterweight division.

Papy Abedi is yet to win a fight in the UFC joining the promotion with an undefeated record, picking up eight straight victories on the European MMA circuit. Abedi has submission losses to Thiago Alves and James Head and desperately needs a win if he’s to say in the UFC.

Siyar Bahadurzada will replace injured Akiyama against Thiago Alves at UFC 149

UFC officials have announced that an injured Yoshihiro Akiyama has withdrawn from his UFC 149 fight against Thiago Alves and will be replaced by Siyar Bahadurzada who will compete for only his second time in the UFC Octagon.

UFC 149 will take place on July 21st at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The event will be headlined by a featherweight title bout between current champion Jose Aldo and Erik Koch.

The new match-up between Alves and Bahadurzada will be part of the main card that will air on pay-per-view, the prelims are expected to air on FX and Facebook as usual. There is currently no information on the cause or nature of Akiyama’s injury at this stage.

Thiago Alves has been unable to put together any consecutive victories since losing a welterweight championship fight against Georges St.Pierre at UFC 100 back in July 2009. Since then he has won two fights, a dominant decision victory over John Howard and he defeated Papy Abedi with a rear-naked choke submission in the first round. In his most recent fight at UFC on FX 2, Alves was defeated by Martin Kampmann who was able to secure a guillotine choke in the third round ending the fight. A victory over hot prospect Bahadurzada would be big for Alves who will now look to build up some momentum.

Newcomer Bahadurzada put on an impressive performance in his UFC debut defeating veteran Paulo Thiago. He was able to knockout the Brazilian in just 42 seconds of the first round earning himself “Knockout of the Night” honors. Siyar is currently on a seven-fight winning streak. Prior to joining the UFC he won the Shooto middleweight championship and successfully defended the belt twice before making the drop to welterweight. A victory over “Pitbull” would put the UFC’s 170 pound division on notice.

Nate Diaz happy to wait and will fight for UFC lightweight title next

After his big win over Jim Miller at UFC on Fox 3 Nate Diaz has finally been confirmed as the next in line for a title shot.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the news at the post-fight press conference and also squashed the rumors of Diaz needing to take out Anthony Pettis before receiving a title shot. Diaz will now wait for the winner of Henderson vs. Edgar 2 and fight for the title later this year. It is expected that the Henderson vs. Edgar rematch will take place at UFC 150 in August.

Prior to the event taking place there were doubts around whether or not Diaz would fight for the title in his following fight as it would involve a long layoff, but it now seems that will not be an issue. In a post fight interview on UFC.com Nate said he has been feeling burnt out from training and needs a break so this would tie in well with the wait for the title fight.

Nate Diaz has been on a fantastic run in the UFC lightweight division building up a three-fight winning streak with victories over Takanori Gomi, Donald Cerrone and now Jim Miller. Last night Diaz laid down a dominant performance and a finish that earned him “Submission of the Night” honors and a shot at lightweight gold, now we just need to see who he’ll take on between Henderson and Edgar.

The MMA Review "Babe Of The Month" for May 2012: Poppy Thompson

It is a new month and I am now able to introduce you to The MMA Review May "Babe Of The Month"! I am happy to tell you that Shock 'n' Awe ring girl Poppy Thompson is our May babe! Enjoy!

Jay Cee: "Hi Poppy, I am really glad to have you here on themmareview.co.uk as our May "Babe Of The Month"! Tell me how it feels to be an MMA Review Babe? I hear it is your Birthday this month! How will you be celebrating?"

Poppy Thompson: "It feels pretty amazing! I’m a big fan of The MMA Review so being babe of the month for May has definitely put a big smile on my face. This year I celebrated by watching Callum Jones and James Pennington fight at Kayo MMA and after hit the town and got a bit tipsy with the girls."

Jay Cee: "Tell me a bit about how you got into being a ring girl? I know you currently do shows for Shock'n'Awe, are there any other promotions you work for or have worked for in the past?"

Poppy Thompson: "My Best friend Lexi asked if I wanted to be a ring girl with her, I had never watched a fight in my life so I was pretty nervous at first but I’m totally hooked now. I have worked for a few other promotions but I mainly work for Shock n Awe."

Jay Cee: "What is your favourite thing about being a ring-girl?"

Poppy Thompson: "The best bit is meeting new people, I have made so many friends through the sport. I also train at Gym01 mixed martial arts so I get to see the guys and girls train for big fights, it’s amazing how much time and training goes into it all."

Jay Cee: "Are you an actual MMA fan? If so, who is your favorite MMA fighter? and why?"

Poppy Thompson: "I’m a Big fan, I love watching MMA! And lucky for me I get the best seat so I can watch all the action up close. It’s so hard to pick a favorite fighter as they all have different strengths and weaknesses but at the moment it’s Callum ‘Little Country’ Jones. I watched his last fight and he completely destroyed the other guy."

Jay Cee: "Tell me a bit about what else you do outside of being a ring girl Poppy? I have seen some nice modelling pictures of you, is modelling something you do full time or just something on the side?"

Poppy Thompson: "I do a bit of modeling part time for fashion and glamour but for my full time job I’m actually a mechanical engineer, I work on Auto Cad drawing up building services…I bet you didn’t expect that! Haha!"

Jay Cee: "You're right, I wasn't expecting that...lol...Last question now...What can we expect from Poppy Thompson in the future? what are your plans for 2012?"

Poppy Thompson: "Well at the moment I’m filming for a new documentary on MMA Wives that will be coming out towards the end of this year and with Shock N Awe getting bigger and bigger I think I’m going to be a very busy girl."

Jay Cee: "Good stuff, well that about wraps it up Poppy. Thanks again for taking some time out to be our May "Babe Of The Month" and good luck for the future!"

Ross Pearson arrested on suspicion of DUI in Las Vegas

British featherweight UFC fighter Ross Pearson (13-5) was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Pearson was driving in Las Vegas at 4am when the police apparently spotted his car swerving from side to side on the road. They pulled Ross over and issued a field sobriety test which resulted in them arresting Pearson and taking him to the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of DUI.

News of the arrest was first reported on TMZ.com earlier today, Pearson has yet to respond or comment on the incident.

Twenty-seven-year-old Pearson won his last fight at UFC 141 where he defeated Junior Assunção via decision in his featherweight debut. He is scheduled to face Cub Swanson at UFC on FX 4 on June 22nd in his second outing as a featherweight. Ross is currently helping out as part of Dominick Cruz’s coaching team on “The Ultimate Fighter Live” and this is the reason for his current presence in Las Vegas.

Anthony Njokuani will take on Paul Taylor at UFC on Fuel TV 4

A lightweight bout between Anthony Njokuani (15-6) and Paul Taylor (11-6-1) has been added to the UFC on Fuel TV 4 fight card scheduled to take place June 11 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The main card for this event will air on Fuel TV.

The bout has not been officially confirmed as of yet but it has been reported by both Fighters Only Magazine and MMAjunkie.com.

Anthony Njokuani enters this fight coming off a recent victory over John Makdessi at UFC 145, winning the bout via unanimous decision after going all three rounds.

Since moving over to the UFC from the now defunct World Extreme Cagefighting organization, Njokuani has had mixed results. He currently has a 2-2 record in the UFC, is yet to score two consecutive victories in the promotion and will no doubt look to achieve this against Taylor.

Paul Taylor first competed for the Ultimate Fighting Championship back in 2007 at UFC 126. In that debut bout which took place in Manchester, England, Paul defeated Edilberto de Oliveira via TKO.

Since then, and similar to Njokuani, he has had varied results with a UFC record of 4-5. Although an exciting fighter, Taylor has never quite yet been able to build up a consistent string of victories allowing him to move into the top end of the division.

Jose Aldo vs. Erik Koch is set to be main event at UFC 149

A title fight between UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo (21-1) and Erik Koch (13-1) is in the works for UFC 149, the fight has not yet been officially announced but looks very likely to take place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, according to multiple sources.

The fight will headline UFC 149 which is set to take place on July 21st at Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome with the main card airing on pay-per-view and the preliminary bouts on FX and Facebook.

Aldo has long been rumored to be on the UFC 149 card but when the middleweight championship fight between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen was moved from UFC 147 to 148 UFC President Dana White suggested that Aldo could potentially be moved to UFC 147 to fill the spot. Since then it has emerged that Aldo would not have been ready in time for that fight and it looks like he will now actually remain on the UFC 149 card after all.

Jose Aldo has won all three of his UFC fights and has successfully defended his title against Mark Hominick, Kenny Florian, and most recently Chad Mendes. The fight against Mendes took place at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Aldo won via TKO in the very first round; this leaves him on a fourteen fight winning streak which contains eight victories within the now defunct WEC promotion. Jose’s dominance continues to impress fans everywhere and there is doubt that he is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world at this current time.

Erik Koch enters this fight on a four fight winning streak with victories over Bendy Casimir, Francisco Rivera, Raphael Assunção, and most recently Jonathan Brookins in September 2011 where he won via decision. Koch also competed in the WEC which is where he suffered his only career defeat against Chad Mendes at WEC 47 losing by decision. This will be Erik’s third fight in the UFC and I am sure he would love nothing more than to take the UFC featherweight belt away from Aldo, but it won’t be easy against the seemingly unstoppable Brazilian.

The UFC 149 card is shaping nicely so far:

- Jose Aldo vs. Erik Koc
- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cheick Kongo
- Thiago Alves vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
- George Roop vs. Antonio Carvalho
- Nick Ring vs. Court McGee
- Bryan Caraway vs. Mitch Gagnon
- Mitch Clarke vs. Anton Kuivanen
